Egypt'S Cotton Exports Drop By 69.7%

According to the Egyptian National Bureau of Statistics (CAPMAS) report, the third quarter of 2013/2014 fiscal year, Egypt's cotton exports fell by 69.7%.

The main reason is planting.

It is not as high as planting other cash crops. Cotton farmers' enthusiasm for planting has been frustrated, planting area has been reduced, and cotton production has declined.

Textile holding company lost a total of 2 billion 100 million pounds in the current fiscal year.

3~5 cotton consumed 12 thousand tons of local cotton in 2014, compared with 34 thousand tons in the same period last year.

In the same period, cotton production decreased by 18.7% to 39 thousand tons, compared with 48 thousand tons in the same period last year.

In the first 8 months of 2014, cotton imported 1 million 880 thousand tons, down 37.9% from the same period last year.

In August, the number of cotton imports in China dropped sharply over the same period, and the average price dropped slightly.

Quotas are mostly 1% tariffs, accounting for about half of the total tariff. The most important way of importing materials in the trade mode is that the proportion of the other three products is relatively small except for the smaller proportion of raw materials processing, accounting for about 20%. The Australian cotton in the source countries is far higher than other countries, and the proportion is more than 60%. The import customs are mainly in Qingdao, Shanghai and Nanjing, and the most importing areas are Shandong and Jiangsu.

In 2013/2014, domestic textile growth declined, cotton import demand declined, and total imports of 3 million tons, down 31.7% from the previous year.

Due to the narrowing of the price difference between inside and outside cotton, the total tariff import quota dropped sharply, only 300 thousand tons, accounting for 36% of the previous year; import trade was mainly imported processing; India continued to be the largest source of imports, Australia surpassed the United States and the United States retreated to third.
