The Bangladesh garment manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) held a three day 2009 Exhibition on clothing and apparel in Chittagong for the first time in November 23rd.

BGMEA Mr Salam, the chairman of the exhibition, said at the fair that the reason for hosting the exhibition was to attract international buyers to come to the city to meet with local clothing exporters.

He said that since Chittagong is the second largest garment export center in Bangladesh, it is necessary to hold a Clothing Fair in this port city.

He said that since the outbreak of the financial crisis, the export of garment industry has decreased by 18%. However, in the first 5 months of this fiscal year, Bangladesh's exports of woven garments and knitted garments also increased by 24.76% and 34.57% respectively.
