Canada Removed China, South Korea And Singapore From The List Of Beneficiary Countries Of GPT.

In October 9th last year, the federal government announced the abolition of General Preferential Tariff Withdrawal Order (P). Since January 1st of next year, 72 Chinese developed countries with high per capita income and trade competitiveness, such as mainland China, Hongkong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea, have graduated from their list of GPT beneficiary countries, and will no longer enjoy preferential tariff treatment.

In the early days of the implementation of the preferential tariff system of P, Hongkong was excluded from the beneficiary list. However, rival countries such as mainland China, South Korea, Singapore and Hongkong were still on the list of GPT beneficiaries, which made us face higher tariffs when exporting to Canada and caused our industry to be unfairly competitive.

In addition, Canada provides tariff free import treatment to low - level development countries (LDC), and specifically stipulates that if raw materials imported from GPT beneficiary countries are processed and manufactured, they can enjoy tariff free treatment.

This provision has also led to the disadvantage of developing countries such as Kampuchea and Laos unwilling to import raw materials into our country.
