Head Of Department Of English At Raffles University Promotes The New Model Course In Donghua.

Christopher Hamilton, director of the English Department of the Raffles university system in Singapore, visited Donghua Raffles to introduce the improved English course. The new curriculum is specially designed to help our students achieve IELTS 6, and can promote the interaction and interest of English teaching.


That afternoon, all the relevant teachers of our English department attended the conference on the implementation of the new curriculum. At the meeting, Dr. Hamilton introduced the newly improved English teaching mode, and discussed it with our school teacher carefully.

Dr. Hamilton said that the basic English Teaching in China focused on grammar and vocabulary, which led students to learn English for more than 6 years, but the actual English communication ability was still very weak. The greatest advantage of the new curriculum is that it specifically strengthens the training of reading, writing and speaking, and reduces the learning time of English grammar. At the same time, for the IELTS exam required for students to study abroad, Dr Hamilton's new course will give special training to this.

Another improvement of the new curriculum is the classical literature education introduced by Dr. Hamilton in reading and writing modules. As an expert in British and American Literature in the eighteenth Century, Dr. Hamilton knows the importance of literary masterpieces to the natural enhancement of students' English. He calls his new teaching method "immersion education". For this reason, he uses a brilliant metaphor, "you don't feel that you are growing tall, but you really have grown tall. Soon you will find this fact."

The next day, Dr. Hamilton gave us an interactive test class for Grade 1 and grade 5 students, and applied the new model course to the front line of classroom teaching. The new curriculum was warmly received by students, and the atmosphere of classroom interaction was active and positive. The fruitful experimental course proved the success of the improved curriculum.

The trip to Raffles in Donghua, Shanghai is the first stop of Dr. Hamilton's mission. Next, he will go to the Raffles College in Beijing and Mongolia to carry out this practical "immersion education". Before leaving Shanghai, Dr. Hamilton conveyed his blessing to the Raffles students in Donghua, hoping that they could learn more in the new curriculum, because learning English well would really become a lifelong advantage.
