Li Peilin, a researcher at the Institute of Sociology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, has made a comprehensive analysis of the concept of middle-income class. He believes that the middle-income class is first of all a concept of quality of life, followed by a concept of income distribution. The middle-income class is not only a reflection of the concept of urban and rural structure, but also a concept reflecting the social occupational structure. The middle-income class is a country concept at the same time.

Therefore, a more comprehensive view is that the middle income class, because of the two words of "class", is no longer a single index of "income" that can be accurately defined, explained and described, but a comprehensive index including income level, quality of life, occupation, income distribution system and social structure characteristics.

The middle class is usually called "middle class". Its characteristics include: engaging in mental work; having a higher income, better working environment and conditions; and having the ability to maintain the standard of living and the quality of leisure life.
